Cats have a special talent for showing up in places where you least expect them. And the funniest part is that they look completely comfortable, as if it were a perfectly well-thought-out decision.

But cats never seem embarrassed by their questionable choices. They are like yeah, I'm just chilling in a flower pot, how are you doing today?

If they fit, they sit. That's their golden rule. And apparently, it's the only one they know.

Sinks, flower pots, kitchen drawers, laundry baskets, computer keyboards, behind curtains, in all kinds of pieces of furniture, in enclosed spaces, in elevated surfaces… Cats can fit everywhere. They find a way to do it. They climb, they squeeze, they do whatever it takes to fit in the most unusual and most uncomfortable spot in your house, and it somehow feels effortless for them.

Cats and humans have completely different definitions of comfort. We choose soft and cushioned surfaces like chairs, couches, or beds. Cats appreciate those options too, but they also take creativity to the next level. To them, a grocery bag or even a frying pan can be just as comfortable.

We can't be sure how they rate each location. That would be interesting to know. It would be fascinating if we could do a cat survey on their preferred sitting locations. Imagine asking them to rate each option and explain their choices. What makes a paper bag more appealing than a blanket?

Their answers would be hilarious. Maybe they admire the privacy of enclosed spaces. Maybe they like the sense of security that comes from fitting into a tight spot. Or maybe they wouldn't explain much, and say they do it just because they fit. At least we know something they all have in common: cardboard boxes are peak comfort for any cat.
